Conservation & Restoration

The Mawson’s Huts Foundation – a not-for-profit charity established in 1996 to conserve the historic and fragile wooden huts – is seeking funds for ongoing maintenance and conservation of the buildings.

The Foundation is a registered Deductible Gift Recipient with all monetary donations tax deductible.

Sir Douglas Mawson

Australia’s greatest Polar explorer, Douglas Mawson, led two major expeditions to the Antarctic in 1911-14 and 1929-31. His legacy includes Australia’s territorial claim to 42 per cent of Antarctica and the Australian Antarctic Division, which operates three scientific and research bases on the continent and one on Macquarie Island.
